last minute car hire

help! We fly to Geneva on the 10th, spend the night in Lausanne, then travel onward to Ornans on the 11th april, where we will need a car. I (stupidly) did not realise that there would be so much demand on car hire and I can%26#39;t find a car anywhere near our price range now from Geneva airport (Swiss side).

Do you think there would be less demand in say Besancon or Pontarlier or even Lausanne. I am writing this in desperation now as can%26#39;t ring any more car hire firms until tomorrow - the internet sites are of limited use as they rarely show availability.

So, can anyone advise, please? Many thanks.

I just punched in a rental at Sixt.com starting April 11 for 4 days in Geneva... didn%26#39;t seem to be a problem.

I%26#39;m not sure why you are worried about not using the internet... if you go to book a car and there are none available the site will tell you that.

Also surely large companies like Sixt, Hertz etc must have 24 hour phone reservations?

I have telephoned all the international companies who operate out of geneva airport. Other than a couple of very expensive cars, they have nothing at all. In some cases the website info was accurate and in others it was not.

Good point about the 24 hr booking - one of the major UK offices closed at 8pm but I%26#39;ll try the others for other locations. Many thanks!

Try http://www.priceline.co.uk and click the car hire near the top right... I punched in 2 days starting the 11th at Geneva Airport and got a page full of choices...

Where will you return the car? Returning a car in a different country brings some heavy additional charges whereas returning it in same country, different town is only a small additional charge, if any. Knowing this may alter your choice of where to rent, if you have an option.

There seems to be some availability 11th -13 April at Quick Cars besancon. Complicated by Easter of course.
