At the end of May I am planning on hiring a car and then travelling to possibly Valberg or St Martin vesubie or anywhere that you can suggest for a week%26#39;s walking. we wish to stay in self catering accommodation. This will then be our base for the walks. We only do moderate walks. we need help in deciding on where to stay that is handy for Nice. Any suggestions on self catering acc?

will you be driving out from a base to somewhere else to start the walks every day?
why not use the train des merveilles and base yourself somewhere like sospel or tende = loads of walking round about and it also gives you the option of starting from st dalmas or la brigue or breil sur roya etc by taking the train a stop or two

SelkieNice, thanks for the advice. I had planned to hire a car but your thoughts are much appreciated. I will look into basing myself in Sospel and using the trains as you have suggested. Any ideas on self catering accommodation?

but try contacting the tourist info office

or in Tende

Since we live in Nice we tend to go up on the train and go for walks and then go home at night so i%26#39;m not much help for accomodation
