We will spend 3 nights in Avalon (moulin des ruats) in early June on our way south. We have stayed here for a night in transit once before and visited Vezelay for breakfast and a brief stroll.
We will have two full days to explore the area. What villages should we choose. Other recommendations e.g. restaurants, views etc.
On our return from Provence to Paris we will spend one night in Beaune at Hotel Paix -- what should be our top priority for an afternoon and early morning to get the most of this brief visit?

Visit the beautiful Château de Tanlay, built in the Renaissance style, the picturesque small town of Semur-en-Auxoiss, and the Abbaye de Fontenay on the first part of your trip. Don%26#39;t miss the town of Autun, which has a magnificent Gothic cathedral in the midst of the medieval town. You can walk around the original ramparts On the outskirts of Autun is a fine Roman amphitheater, still in use. If you drive through the town, watch for signs for the Croix de la Liberation, from which there is a fine view.
The time you have available for Beaune will allow you to see most of the sights of the town; the special one is the ancient Hospice de Beaune. In nearby Savigny-les-Beaune you might want to visit the château, which has a good tasting room--and wonderful wines.

I stuttered: it%26#39;s Semur-en-Auxois. One S only.

Thanks -- we actually spent a night in Semur-en-Auxois on a previous trip from the south of France to Paris -- lovely spot.
We will look at your other choices and feel reassured about our limited time in Beaune
