Photographing the Effiel tower

I will be in Paris for the first time in May and welcome any tips on photographing the Effiel tower from above and below. I hear that the lower level might be better for picture taking. In regard to observation decks, is there alot of fencing etc. that one would have to shot through? Any tips on night photography? I have a Nikon d-40 with 55mm vr zoom lens.

I%26#39;m no expert on photography, but I definitely recommend visiting all 3 levels of the Eiffel Tower. The view is different from each. I was amazed at the number of people who just rode to the top and then all the way back down again.

Yes, there is screening, but my husband manages to take good pictures despite it.

The screening wasn%26#39;t a problem, the pictures we took from the second level were better (our opinion) than from the top, maybe it%26#39;s the angle or something, i%26#39;m no expert.

Sometimes the haze is a problem when shooting from the top level. No matter, go there anyway, and shoot from all three levels by all means. At night, the shots from the Trocadero seem best for relative closeups. My favorite shots are from the Pont Alexander, start shooting at sundown and then more shots with the baroque street lamps framing the ET just with the last bit of light. Get two 2-4 megabite cards.....rather than one 8, in case one gets misplaced you%26#39;ll still have plenty of great photos. Take a spare battery too and your charger. I might see you on the Pont alexander--we%26#39;ll be there May 2-6.

Take a tripod and get under the tower at night for long exposure shots. You can get gorgeous detail of the ironwork which is surprisingly decorative and will be lit in blue or yellow. This one by my son.

For a whole tower shot go to the Trocadero platform across the river. As a bonus the tower flickers and twinkles on the hour and that can come out quite well.

The tower wears different dresses at different times. We stayed a week in Paris with a view over the rooftops. These are not sharp because of lack of tripod but give an idea of colours.
