nice with a 1 year old baby

hello

thinking of going to nice or cannes for 4-5 days. we have a 1 year old toddler. Firstly, any recommendations on which is generally a nicer place - nice or cannes?

On nice, we would like somewhere to stay with 2 interlocking rooms and a balcony so that when the baby is asleep we can sit out on the balcony and have a nice view. Somewhere central or a short walk to centre. And a pool. and just a nice place - either hotel or self catering we dont mind. Also, would you recommend hiring a car or taxi it?

Thank you very much.

We just returned from Nice with a 11 month old and a 5 year old. The trip went off without any hitch at all.

We stayed in self catering accommodation at the Citadines Buffa. The room was well equipped, central and had everything we needed. It could feel a bit cramped but the central location close to the sea as well as the station more than made up for it. We opted for a 3 person apartment and had a free lit-bebe ( baby cot) put in. In reality, it was more like a studio with an additional baby bed but as I said we found it more than acceptable and as we managed to get a deal for 85 pounds a night, a bargain for the whole family.

We visited Cannes and in general I would prefer to use Nice as a base. Cannes is a good day trip but Nice is easier to use as a base for trips to Monaco, Ventimiglia, Menton etc. and a more lively, %26#39;real%26#39; city. We found Cannes to be a bit artificial and more glitz than soul ( but perfectly suitable for a day trip or two). It is also my impression than Nice is the cheaper alternative and also closer to the airport.

If staying in Nice, a car is more trouble than it%26#39;s worth. We relied on public transportation and even with two small kids it was a smooth experience. Fares are good value ( incredibly cheap in case of buses) and everything just works. We did use the luxury of a taxi to and from the airport as we didn%26#39;t think that lugging around 2 kids and luggage on crowded buses was the best start or end to the vacation. For everything else we relied totally on public transport.

Thanks a million for your reply - its very useful. i will check out the place you stayed as it sounds perfect and reasonably priced for a family. We are happy to use the public transport and prefer to as it saves all the hassle or a car and the cost as well. Thanks again, its good to get a recommendation from someone else with little ones. Cheers.
