hello
thinking of going to cannes or nice for 4-5 days. we have a 1 year old toddler. Firstly, any recommendations on which is generally a nicer place - nice or cannes or anywhere else around there? Lookinf for somewhere to watch the people go by, nice places to eat and cosmopolitan.
On nice, we would like somewhere to stay with 2 interlocking rooms and a balcony so that when the baby is asleep we can sit out on the balcony and have a nice view. Somewhere central or a short walk to centre. A pool. Just a nice place - either hotel or self catering we dont mind. Also, would you recommend hiring a car or taxi it instead?
Thank you very much.

See that you asked the same question on the Nice forum. The answer you got there covered a lot of points.
You don%26#39;t say what time of year you are palnning your visit.
If you are travelling during the summer and want to go to a beach I would choose Cannes. Nice has a stones on its beach.
Cannes or Nice, is a personal preference and you will find plenty of people who champion both. Both have nice places to eat, and are cosmopolitan but Cannes definitely wins for people watching.
We generally prefer Cannes because it%26#39;s smaller and more navigable on foot.
Self catering is often a better choice than a hotel with a small child - a kitchen, fridge and washing machine can be very useful.
You are more likely to find a better choice of accommodation with a pool in Cannes, plus in Cannes there is a lot of accommodation within 5 to 10 minutes walk to the sandy beach so a pool may not be so important.
Suggest you check out the Travel Library listings for options.
You could also try looking at some (of the many) property rental sites such as for private apartment rentals such as:
www.holidaylettings.co.uk
www.holiday-rentals.com
A car can be a handicap if you are travelling during peak times and public transport is good from both Cannes and Nice. The rail and bus stations in Cannes are very central. Nice is larger than Cannes and has better transport links especially to the east of the Riviera but you may have to travel further to get to the bus and rail stations.
Hope this helps

I much prefer Nice to Cannes [there is more to do and see and bigger choice of places to eat and better transport links in Nice ] BUT I think cannes would be better for holiday with a baby that doesn%26#39;t involve much travelling around and for the use of a sandy beach.

Soooz. Thank you very much for this information it is really useful. You are right - self catering with the fridge, washing machine etc would be better. i will check out the sites you suggest. We would like to go end may when it is nice but not too hot. I realized the cannes festival is on until the 24th and assume accommodation will be booked out and very expensive? so maybe we could go 24th or 25th for 4 days. Thanks for all you help again.

thanks for your reply. Yes, it seems most recommend cannes with a toddler as its easier to manage. Nice counds like a great place to see so maybe we can spend a few hours there en route to cannes or on the way home via nice airport. thanks again for your help.
