2 women going to Paris (senior citizens) during May for first time--don%26#39;t know anything about Paris. Looking for hotel what location should I stay away from; and what districts is safe--I don%26#39;t understand the numbers. We are looking to spend under $150 EUR.
thank you.

Anywhere in central Paris is safe: there is nowhere to avoid. The areas close to the main railway stations are perhaps a little less pleasant, but they are not dangerous.
The sights in Paris are spread out so, wherever you stay, you will need to catch the metro to get to some of them. And, wherever you stay, it will be less than 200 yards to a metro station.
I would strongly suggest that you buy and read a guidebook on Paris. This will explain the district numbers, give suggestions for hotels, and provide much, more more that will help you enjoy this magic city.

The area or arrondisement numbers go from 1 to 20 and spiral out from the centre, so numbers 1-6 especially are seen as being close to the middle and desirable as a location. However, as Nick said, you will never be far from a metro. These lines run all over under the city and also connect with the RER suburban railway for places outside the heart of Paris. If you look at a map of the metro you can plan to get from any place to any other place by changing lines where they intersect. As long as you stay inside the Metro system you travel on the one ticket.
You might not be comfortable around the area of Pigalle which is the red light district and I was not personally very comfortable around Les Halles. You would certainly avoid the Bois du Boulogne at night. Apart from that central Paris is fine.
You might like to stay very centrally. We have stayed at the Hotel St Louis en L%26#39;Isle right on the island of St Louis in arrondisement 1. A great place to stay and just across the bridge from Notre Dame.

Make sure your guide book has a little map of the metro as well, and happy planning!

Hi ,,
Well, you have left it a bit late to get a good deal,, but here are some ideas of hotels that are well located, clean, and safe. The rooms will likely be small though, and for 150 euros or less, do not expect luxury, clean , comfy and lots of %26quot;character%26quot; instead!!
Hotel Du College De France
Hotel Diana
Hotel Des Grand Hommes( may be over your budget if you don%26#39;t get a special deal)
Hotel Place du Louvre
There are actually about 50 more good ones,, so just keep trying. I suggest you do a search for previous posts on this site that may have posted responses with other lists. Try entering %26quot;good budget hotels%26quot; and see what comes up.
For the hotels I listed , just google search them, they all have websites with english options.
