Anyone had a wedding at Chateau de Challain?

I am hoping to have a small, beautiful, fairytale wedding in France...from what I can tell, Chateau de Challain seems to be the perfect place. I was hoping I could get insight from anyone who has had or attended a wedding there? Any pros/cons that you wish you had known before getting into the planning? How much did it cost (roughly)? And I notice it says they only have 4 suites, however I have family members throughout France who would come to the wedding and I%26#39;m sure would spend the night, as well as as American friends and family who will be joining us...probably about 40 total - is there any nearby accomodation you would recommend?

I have emailed all these questions to the owner as well, I was just looking for help from people who have been in this situation before :-) Thanks!!

The first step in planning a wedding in France is to review the governmental requirements:

Here are some websites which may be helpful:

Thank you, and my apologies, I should have been more clear :-) I realize the residency restrictions are quite extensive, so we are planning to do our civil ceremony here in the States first, with a blessing %26quot;ceremony%26quot; and soiree at the chateau to avoid all the hassles.

We had a small wedding ceremony at the Chateau last June (2007). The wedding included myself and my wife and the parents (total = 6). It was a perfect ceremony. We were looking to do the large (150+ guests) wedding here in the states, but the stress kept piling on with all the planning and cancelations, etc. If you want your wedding (and hard-earned money)to last days and not 5 hours at a %26quot;wedding-factory%26quot;, I highly recommend going the %26quot;overseas%26quot; route, and I highly recommend this chateau. There was no stress in planning the wedding over there. We communicated directly with the owner (Cynthia, who is from the states as well) who set everything up (lodging, meals, flowers, minister, photographer, musicians). That was it. No stress. The only issue would be large parties (probably greater than 10-12) since the chateau has (at the time of our stay) only 4 rooms available. If you plan on having more guests, they will probably have to stay in Angers (a beautiful city about 30 mins. south). Again, if you want a stress-free and enjoyable classy wedding filled with beautiful memories to last a lifetime, this is the way to go. Feel free to contact me with questions regarding the chateau.....we%26#39;re planning on going back next year.

I would highly recommend staying here. It%26#39;s perfect for a honeymoon and wedding. I wouldn%26#39;t change a thing about the wedding we had there!

When is your wedding? We are planning our wedding there for Sept 2009. We rented the whole chateau for the entire week for all of our guests. When I spoke with the owner/wedding coordinator (Cynthia), she told me she can fit up to 30-33 guests. We only plan on having approx. 20-25 guests (still waiting to get back all of our RSVP%26#39;s). Cynthia is really helpful and great at coordinating everything so you don%26#39;t have to worry about a thing. On the chateau%26#39;s website, there is a link that will provide you all the info about pricing for having a wedding/reception there. You can also reach out to Cynthia and she can tell you also.

The reviews on this site are absolutely fantastics for the place and it was shown on an episode of True Life on MTV. You can also go to the chateau%26#39;s website and on the home page at the bottom, there is a small (really small) link to all of the photos of various weddings that were hosted there. You can also try bestdestinationwedding.com/forum and the girl who got married on MTV at the chateau posted her story there.

Best of luck on your wedding!
