I have a questions about Labour day! please help!

I have a week in Paris but unfortunately, on 1st May is a labour day.

My question is

A department stores like Galeries lafayette or printemps will be close on that day?

Thank you for your kindness =)

May 1st, almost everything is closed, department stores included. This would be a good day for a ong, leisurely lunch at a fancy restaurant, a visit to the Bois de Boulogne or a local farmer%26#39;s market followed by a picnic.

I will also be in Paris 4/30-5/4. I had already purchased a 2 day Museum Pass (unaware it had to be 2 consecutive days)so it looks like I will be going to the Museums on Sat and Sun, with the exception of Versailles since it appears to be open on 5/1. Can anyone confirm this? Are there any parades or other celebrations on Labour Day or LD evening?

Thanks!

We will also be in Paris 4/29 to 5/4 - what WILL we all do on May 1?? I would like to go to Monet%26#39;s house- wonder if that%26#39;s a possibility that day. Perhaps a car rental and drive to coutryside might be in order- want to join us?? :)

I won%26#39;t be there myself, but here%26#39;s an idea - why don%26#39;t you gather a group of tripadvisor readers on May 1 to meet at one of the places that you%26#39;ve determined definitely will be open that day? We met up with a tripadvisor group a few years ago at Le Sergeant Recruiteur on Ile St. Louis... there were about a dozen of us and it was great fun to swap stories and advice. Might be even more fun on a French holiday when distractions are limited.

We will be in Paris during the May 1 holiday as well. I think we will do a day trip that day either to Vaux-le-Vicomte or to Chartres. My understanding is that most museums will be closed. I think Versailles will be open, however someone who went there last year during that holiday weekend said the lines were horrendous, and it ended up being a waste of time and money.

I will also be there on May 1. My plan is to go to Luxembourg garden and just wander around in the afternoon and take a boat ride in the evening.

Buy some lilies of the valley from the street vendors. You%26#39;ll see bouquets of them everywhere. Many locals head to the surrounding forests to pick their own. It is legal on May 1!!!

Labour day is great in Paris! OK, so things are shut but it is also a lovely holiday atmosphere and there are horse parades and all sorts going on.

Like someone else said, try going to the parks and walking round people watching :-)
