We just won a prize at a contest which consists of an all-expenses paid trip to watch the Tour de France, for 3 nights. They are giving us the flexibility to choose where in France (or Spain) we would like to stay to watch the leg of the tour.
We are not really into the Tour de France, but we are interested in visiting a nice place in France, hopefully outside of Paris (which we have visited before several times and we love). We would like to get to know the %26quot;real%26quot; countryside of France, hopefully close to the south border so we can visit other places there, maybe even Barcelona.
We plan to stay for an additional week after the 3 nights we won.
Can anybody suggest what would be the best place to visit?
We are very excited, so all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks in advance!

Congratulations. I had a look at the route and it seems you could go for the Cap D%26#39;Adge area and Perpignan for a side trip to Spain or somewhere round Annecy or Besancon area and take a side trip into the Swiss mountains. We spent some time near Annecy and in Besancon in 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Besancon is quite a large town with amazing buildings and a huge Vauban fort above the town so most interesting to visit. Annecy is on the lake and there are wonderful drives and excursions around there too.
