We are travelling north from Perpignan on Easter Monday (towing a caravan). Can anyone please advise about likely traffic conditions and whether it would be best to travel the auto route or other roads. Thanks.

I%26#39;m not sure how far you will be going.
The A9 autoroute will be %26quot; dense et les conditions de circulation sont globalement ou localement difficiles.%26quot;
Where the A9 joins the A6 (say after Avignon) it will be %26quot; très dense et les conditions de circulation sont très difficiles%26quot;.
This means queues at peages with very heavy traffic going north on the A6. Be prepared for delays in case of rain, accidents or roadworks. More information about roadworks : …gouv.fr/diri/listeflashs.do…
I will be staying at home !

Thanks. Maybe we should stay put but we don%26#39;t have the option! Bad planning I guess.
We are thinking the A9/A75 to Clermont Ferrand might be the route we take and then stop for the night. Is that any better than the A7?

I believe the A75 is a less busy route than the A7. But last summer there was a stretch where the A75 doesn%26#39;t quite link up with the A9 yet... there were a few miles of 2 lane road.
Since you are leaving from Perpignan you should be past that bit quite early in the day. And the earlier you can leave the better I think.

That%26#39;s encouraging. Thanks.
We have been looking at the web link Peter mentions - really good. It is a new one for us but bookmarked now for future reference.

The A75 is less busy. Best of all - it is free ! However it has some long inclines, and there are a couple of stretches not completed including the A75 - A9 junction.
After Clermont Ferrand the A71 is busier, and from Orleans onward and joining the A10 it is often very busy.
If you are heading for the north channel ports, it may be worth reading about the Francilienne around Paris. It is further, but may be better with the caravan ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francilienne ).
