montmartre restaurants?

We stayed at an apartment in Montmartre two years ago and had some of the worst food we have had in Paris although we tried to pick recommended places.

We are going back -- and while we cook in many nights would like some recs.

We liked %26#39;L%26#39;Homme Tranquille%26#39; last trip --but our other choices were dreadful.

What are some back side of the hill -- or other off the beaten track spots with good moderately priced food and local clientele?

There are a number of nice places near the Abbesses metro.

the worst restaurant we have encountered in France is half a block from the Abesses Metros stop -- so specific names would be helpful

I can%26#39;t remember the names: I just wander until I find somewhere that has interesting food, a price I think is reasonable, and lots of French being spoken by the diners.

sydneynick and I have the same philosophy about food in Paris. I%26#39;ve actually never had a bad meal in Paris - I%26#39;ve had some that were not quite up to the standard of the others, but my methods seem to stand me in good stead.

For local clientele you really just have to look for yourself because once the name of a place is published here, there won%26#39;t be room for the local clientele, or for you. The tourists will be lined up at the door, and the moderate prices will be a thing of the past.

Have you been to Rue Cler?

Le Poulbot, 39 rue Lamarck. All of the seating is inside and there is no view, but the food is very good and priced reasonably. We had dinner for two, two appitizers, platters, desert and a bottle of wine for 54.00 e. I found this...

%26quot;Engravings of Old Montmartre and discreet lighting create a relaxed, comfortable conviviality at this tiny neighborhood restaurant named after the chef and owner%26#39;s favorite painter, Francisque Poulbot. Working in a mostly traditional register, Jean-Paul Langevin whips up dishes such as escargots on artichoke hearts and roast duckling with turnips. There%26#39;s a well-chosen wine list and good-buy prix-fixe menus for EUR18 and EUR33. Métro: Lamarck Caulaincourt.%26quot;
