Three days in Paris... what to do!

I will be spending three days in Paris on a quick side trip from Amsterdam. Wondering if anyone has any advice on where to go. I am overwhelmed by all the research I am doing and just want to know what some others may think. Of course, I%26#39;d want to see the Eiffel Tower, perhaps visit some museums. I will be arriving in Paris Nord. What are the closest must-go-to sites around that station? Any recommended hostels/cheap hotels nearby? What%26#39;s nightlife like? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is that 4 nights 3 full days or 2 nights one full day? or? if it two nights and one full day -- then try not to cram too much in

I am a less as more traveler so I would pick several quite different experiences (shaped of course by your particular must sees and taste)

For me a walk around Notre Dame at night is a must -- a simply stunning sight -- and a long walk along the Seine at night can be part of that

Climbing the Notre Dame Bell Tower is pretty amazing and a great view across Paris -- I%26#39;d do that instead of going up in the Eiffel Tower -- which you can see from anywhere in Paris (again if the ET is your big deal -- your trip)

I%26#39;d pick one museum if you are a museum person -- and do highlights of the Louvre or D%26#39;Orsay -- and if you aren%26#39;t, Paris is best experienced by walking around Paris - you don%26#39;t have to do a museum

Maybe pick a park e.g. Monceau, Butte Chaumont, Luxemburg Gardens or whatever and walk around the area near it -- taking in nice cafes, perhaps a small museum in that area

but mostly -- Paris a city for sidewalk cares, people watching, strolling and soaking up the atmosphere

I second graceh9! going to museums (plural)is OK if you have already been to Paris many times.. walking around Paris is the most interesting thing you can do.. as it is, 3 days isn%26#39;t nowhere near enough to get a flavour of many areas so you will have to pick up and choose depending on your tastes and what you read about each districts on Google. There are no true tourist sites for a Paris first timer near Gare du Nord, but Montmartre isn%26#39;t that far away by metro. Other areas to check: the 1st, 4th, 5th , 6th, 7th.. There are moderately priced hotels across the street for Gare du Nord..All major Gares%26#39; neighbourhoods have them (there are 6 major gares in Paris). Check trip Advisor for hotels..as for the nightlife... it is like New York..100 of possibilities every day/ evening. There is a magazine called Pariscope listing them, in French only.. also Time out, in English. From expensive classy strip tease to Opera, theatre to ballet. Movies in English, live jazz, ETC. ETC.

YOU can check out mu last trip report %26quot;four perfect days in Paris%26quot;. I managed to show my friend most of the %26quot;must-go-to%26quot; sights and still managed to wander around AND shop.

I am not sure there are many must-go-to sites around the Gare du nord, it is more useful for getting the metro anywhere in the city. I have never stayed around that area. I find areas around stations not very nice.

Two cheap hotels I have stayed at and would recommend, around 60 euros per night , are

Le Laumiere 3 stops from the Gard du Nord in the 19th. Metro stop just opposite, so easy to get anywhere.

Limotel Duperre in the 9th make sure you get a confort room and not classiq.

I will post links separatly.
