Hi,

A good place to start is the excellent post tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187147-i14-k10517…

See also www.ratp.info for itineraries, maps, different passes and tickets, etc.

And of course, feel free to ask if you have a specific question or encounter any problem.

You can also check out your hotel%26#39;s web site - most hotels give RER + Metro routing.

When we go to Paris we use one of two transportation systems. You can get the Air France Bus at CDG into town. It is 14 euro one way, can%26#39;t remember what it is if you get a RT. There are four lines for the bus. There is a map on the bldg. There are signs over the exits of the air terminal telling where to get buses. Pick one of the four lines nearest to where you are going. The bus man puts the luggage in compartments under the bus. Once you get to the nearest stop to where you are going, you would have to get a cab the rest of the way. Cabs follow these buses like bees to honey. We get the bus to the Arch Triumphe and then the cab (that%26#39;s us). Or you can get a shuttle of which there are several. I use the Yellow Shuttle and for one person it is 27 euro one way. Airport to hotel. They deal with a lot of Best Western Hotels. All this is on the internet.

To get around in Paris depends. If you have a whole week ahead of you, MOnday thru Sunday I would recommend the carte orange Decouverte. The holder is 5 euro and two zone carte orange which now uses a computer chip on the holder is 16.80 euro. Good only for Monday thru Sunday. Then there are Visite passes for certain number of days, and then there is a carnet a bunch of 10 tickets for about 11.80 euro. So you have to make your choices depending on days there and what days and also if you can walk a lot. All that will affect your in town transportation plans.

thank you all for your help. i had tried to do the research myself and asked others for advise but it all got a bit confusing and made me nervous since I have never been to Paris.

You didn%26#39;t say which airport, but if it is Carles DeGaulle this has the answer: toandfromtheairport.com/paris-charles-de-gau…

the same site will let you look for other airports (near top %26quot;other paris airports%26quot;)

Assume if you are flying non-stop from Chicago, you%26#39;ll be landing at CDG. How many of you and how much luggage?

There is the Air France bus (no, you don%26#39;t have to have flown on Air France to take it). You can buy a a ticket or pay the driver. As mentioned, there are different routes so you need to be certain you catch the correct bus for your destination.

There is the train, the bus that drops you by the Opera, as well as shuttles and cabs. Best bet - contact your hotel for directions from the airport. Different TA authors have given opinions on the shuttles. Cabs - there is no flat rate - if you get stuck in traffic the meter keeps going.

You can get a map of the Metro on line for your daily travels in Paris. If you want to stay above ground, a TA writer, I believe grandma from England, gave a number of bus routes and the sites you%26#39;d see.

There are assorted hop on/hop off buses as well as the hour long boat cruise for site-seeing.
