Villefranche-sur-Mer

What are peoples opinions of Villefranche as a resort %26amp; what about Hotel Welcome. How does it compare to Cagnes.

|||

Totally different towns actually. Ville franche is close to Monaco and Nice (and Italy) while Cagnes is close to Cannes. Cagnes has a more urban look and feel while Villefranche is more like a resort town. Don%26#39;t know the Hotel you%26#39;re talking about but I would go for Villefranche anytime. But like eerything an opinion is always yours.

I have stayed in somthing like 300 hotels all over the world and the Welcome is one of my top ten, especially at the price which is very reasonable by the standards of the area.

In my opinion the coast between Nice and Monaco is the most beautiful in the world. It is also heavily protected from most of the type of development that has ruined much of the stretch west of Nice.

Not for nothing does Villefranche call itself the Paradis D%26#39;Azur. It is my favourite resort with excellent restaurants and a nice small beach. It can be busy but there is limited parking and when that is full the police simply turn drivers away. The train gives access to the whole coast, eg Nice in 5 minutes or Monaco in about 20. Another factor is the very alert police force that moves undesirables elsewhere as soon as they arrive. In fact, if you turn up scruffy and unshaven you may find yourself delivered to the Italian border by a helpful policeman!

We%26#39;ve stayed in the Hotel welcome 3 years running.. and in fact my husband proposed to me there. If you can get one of the corner deluxe rooms, that have a balcony aswell as a view over the backstreets. The Hotel doesn%26#39;t have a lot of facilities but I can%26#39;t think of anything better than sitting on the balcony ( G%26amp;T in hand) watching the world go buy. Villefranche-sur-mer is great - very good restaurants and if you have a car , it%26#39;s a great base to go up to monaco, beaulieu, eze etc.

Hoe does villefranche compare to beaulieu sur mer, i am choosing between the two and have found the mercure in beaulieu is a similar price...

|||

Beaulieu is closer to Manco while Villefranche is closer to Nice. There are more high class mansions in Beaulieu but both cities are very nice. Depends what you want to do, if you have a car or not and where you want to go while staying in the area.

|||

The Mercure in Bealieu is a long walk to the beaches, but Villefranche doesn%26#39;t have many beaches. A very narrow, crowded strip. Yes, you really need a car. I prefer Beaulieu it is easier to get around and the two are so close, you can easily drive between them. St Jean Cap Ferrat is also nice and is, in my opinion better than either Villefranche or Beaulieu.

|||

The Mercure in Beaulieu is close to the railway station and it%26#39; s not a long walk to the beaches, according to my routing software.

|||

I have stayed in both hotels and much prefer the Welcome, an exceptional small hotel. It takes me five minutes to walk from the Mercure to the beach.

|||

does anyone know if there is a web site for the hotel Welcome

in Villefranche or even a phone number. I think I might like to stay there. Does any one have any pictures?

Thanks
