Would like to plan for spending some time wandering around an outdoor market during our 6 day stay in Paris. If you had to chose just one, which would be your favorite?

I have favorites - Raspail, Bastille, President Wilson, Saxe-Breteil...but choose based on days open and the weather.

Raspail and President Wilson are my favorites. Place d%26#39;Aligre is also fun for a more multiethnic feel, and there%26#39;s a lively flea market, the famous Baron Rouge wine bar, and an excellent covered market, as well as the outdoor food market. I agree about picking markets to visit based on weather on the day, and also how well the market opening days fit in with your other sight-seeing plans. It%26#39;s so much more fun to visit a market when the weather is fair - perhaps you can pick up picnic provisions.

I plan on going to mass early (8:30 at Notre Dame) then going to bastille market. Is Place d%26#39;Aligre close enough to go also? I would love to go to both and then get a quick glass of wine at the wine bar.

Yes, if you go to the Bastille market, it%26#39;s pretty simple to dash over to the Marché Aligré. Aligré is a really cool market. Lots of good cafes and restaurants around it too.

Can someone please give a quick rundown of the best markets/days, or a link to a TripAdvisor thread or review? Thank you. I wouldn%26#39;t ask such a seemingly lazy question, but I%26#39;m limited to internet cafes here, right now.

Thanks for all your replies. Had originally planned to go to the Bastille Market on Sunday, however we may need to change ours plans due to a conflict. Are the markets larger on the weekend, more vendors etc? Also, any idea whether there will be markets on the May 1, Labor Day? Has anyone been to the Marche Grenelle in the 15th? This will be near to where we are staying.

I%26#39;ve been to the Grenelle market. It%26#39;s fairly large with many produce, meat %26amp; flower stalls, and merchants selling everything from furniture, clothing and shoes to cosmetics and kitchen gadgets. I really like it, although it has a different feel than say the Ave. Pres. Wilson market, more %26quot;real%26quot; and down to earth.

PW is beautiful and picturesque and absolutely for the wealthy people living in the 8th. They have lovely items, like long silk tassles from Marrakesh for one%26#39;s windows and chic hats.
Grenelle is for the middle class Parisians. You%26#39;ll see underwear, pots and hair clips because some of this crowd can%26#39;t afford full retail prices.
