I%26#39;m going to be in Paris for 6 hours on my way to Cairo. I%26#39;m thinking about taking the RER to downtown.. in such a limited time what should I do?

Do you actually have 6 hours to sightsee in Paris or do you have 6 hours between when your plane from wherever lands and when the plane to Cairo leaves?
You must factor in the time it will take to get through the landing formalities (say about an hour), then getting to the RER station, waiting for the train and the trip into Paris (another hour), then getting back to the RER, waiting for the train and the trip back to CDG (another hour) and finally the necessity to be back at CDG 3 hours before your flight leaves. That whole process is going to take close to 6 hours.
If you have allowed for that and you still have 6 hours to spend actually in Paris then you should get off the RER at St Michel which is right beside Notre Dame. Depending on what you what to see you will be close to the Latin Quarter, Ile St Louis, the Marais or you could head along the Seine if you just want to wander. If you want to tick off some big sights then the Louvre, Tuileries gardens, Place de Concorde, Champs Elysee and the Arc de Triomphe are all along the same Metro line. You can get a view of the Tour Eiffel from many places in Paris or you could catch a metro or the RER to get a closer look. You probably won%26#39;t have time to go up unless that%26#39;s the only thing you want to do.
Search on this forum as there are a number of similar threads and even a trip report of a stop over visit to Paris.
Just be sure you allow enough time to get back to make your flight to Cairo. Missing that for the sake of a few hours in Paris could be quite expensive.
