Best day to go to Versailles?

I am curious what day during the week it would be the least crowded? I have read that you should get there early, but how early is early?

I am not even sure how to go about getting there, we are staying it the Latin Quarter.

Thanks for the help!

From the Latin Quarter, take the RER C to Versailles-Rive-Gauche-château. You%26#39;ll need to purchase a special ticket (zone 4), 2.90€. The trip takes about 40 minutes from St. Michel.

Versailles generally opens at 09h00. However, I might suggest you check the official website to be sure it will be open when you are there:

You don%26#39;t say when you are visiting... early in the season (say April) the fountains are only turned on on weekends, and they are not to be missed. So if that%26#39;s the case, I would go on a weekend. Later in the season, they are running every day, in which case I would choose a weekday. They are doing a lot of work at Versailles, so it may be uncertain what%26#39;s open or not on the day of your visit. There is a LOT to see, including the main palace, Grand and Petit Trianons, and the fountains and gardens. For the truly in depth visitor, there are a couple additional tours you can sign up for in the ticket office (to the left as you enter the forecourt) that take small groups to the Louis XV and Dauphin apartments. The main part that everyone sees is the Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette apartments, and the state rooms. I would go early, and allow time to have lunch in the one of the restaurants in the gardens, very lovely to pause and enjoy the scenery.

How about 8 May - VE Day? That is a day we could be at Versailles. It appears to be a state holiday, the fountains are a go for that date and I imagine it would be horribly crowded. Are the fountains worth the crowd or should we go during the week and miss them?

fountains running during the summer on tuesdays also...fyi..

I would change based on crowds and weather as much as anything else.

Be aware that the museum is closed on mondays.

We are preparing a visit to Versailles and want to ensure the fountains are on when we go. In a different post, someone said the fountains run on weekends starting from Easter. Does anyone know if they are running before that, like this Saturday? I wonder if Easter Sunday would be extra crowded there. I don%26#39;t see any info regarding the fountains on their website. Thanks!

Get to Versailles really EARLY!! Better going midweek if you can.At least before 10-11 am. After that the coach tours start turning up and it`s bedlam!!. Buy the full pass (about E20) as this gives you access to the whole estate. You will need to give yourself the whole day to explore it all. It`s way over the top in extravagance!! Really easy to get to. Check out above posts

Don`t miss Versailles

As I was told on another thread, here is the schedule of fountain shows. (Grand eaux) chateauversailles-spectacles.fr/en/accueil.h…

You%26#39;ll note it is weekend and holidays until May 12 when Tuesday shows start. I am planning on May 9. FWIW Rick Steeves says Sunday and Tuesday are the most crowded.

Thanks for the link, looks like fountains are on every weekend and public holiday from April 4 - Oct 25 9:00 - 6:30. From May 12 - 23 June, they are also on Tuesdays.
