Cost effective travel in Paris

Hi

we%26#39;re travelling to Paris in July and staing in the Hotel Aviatic St Germain in the Montparnasse area.

Could anyone recommend the most cost effective way to get from the airport to Montparnasse?

Also we ae there for 4 days, would a Carnet of tickets for the metro be the best way to go or is there a visitors metro pass that would be better to buy?

Thanks in advance

The cheapest transportation option from CDG to Montparnasse is using the RER B. The station is in the central section of terminal 2.

Fare: 8.40€

Route map is available here:

Everyone%26#39;s plans are different and there is no one %26quot;best%26quot; solution. Montparnasse is not as central to many tourist sites as are other locations so you may find yourself using public transportation more than someone staying in the 5th arrondissement.

Here is an explanation of the options:

The Hotel Aviatic Saint-Germain is in the southern part of the 6th arrondissement, so it%26#39;s still fairly centrally located. Metro station Falguiere (line 12) is about 200 m down the road, and the larger station Montparnasse-Bienvenüe is also quite near (lines 4, 6, 12 and 13).

To avoid confusion, note that there are TWO hotels with the name Aviatic in this area: one is the 3-star Hotel Aviatic Saint-Germain in the rue de Vaugirard, the other is the cheap one star hotel Aviatic in the rue Brézin.

Hello Cazni,

When we visit Paris we allways take the Air France Bus from CDG to the Montparnasse Train Station. It costs 13 euros. The train station is less than a 10 min walk from your hotel. We stayed at the Aviatic a few years back. It was nice, we had a good sized room with a nice big window in the bedroom and one in the bathroom as well. Breakfast was not much though. We like to have breakfast at a cafe directly across the street from the train station on the northeast corner. (sorry don%26#39;t remember name) Very good omlettes. For a great view of the city the Tour Tower is directly in front of the station as well. Cost about 8 euros, fast elevator up to the 56th floor, 360 view, cafe and gift shop.

Have a great trip.

Hi

thanks for all your help on this. Glad to hear the Aviatic is good, we haven%26#39;t got breakfast included in the rate, I think its good to get out and about, with all the lovely boulangeries it%26#39;s good to try out somewhere new. We%26#39;ll definately look out for the one near the station.

Did you find you used the metro much? I was in Paris a few years ago but stayed a bit further out in the 16e so did have a lot of metro travel, but ths time wanted to stay closer to the sights.

Really looking forward to it, July can%26#39;t come quick enough!

Thanks
