Kookaburra Australian restaurant and bar at 20 quai des Docks, Nice just past the port branch of Ma Nolan%26#39;s.
I finally managed to go last night but walked past the place at first because its not well signposted.
It still has the original sign for La Goelette up on the building and a banner saying Kookaburra hung vaguely on top.
The food was fairly good value for money - large portions of superior pub grub with Australian delicacies such as emu, kangaroo and shark. Also Australian wines and beers - the house wine was 12 euros a bottle and quite drinkable
Good ambiance , very friendly welcome , mixed ages of customers and pretty busy on a Wednesday evening -
I expect it will be heaving at the weekend so booking is probably advisable
This is the number if anyone is interested Phone: 06 84 24 07 65

Sounds very French!!!
Shark in Australia is hardly a delicacy. Just about the cheapest fish you can buy. Kangaroo is very good for you, lean and low cholesterol. Has to be eaten rosy or it is very dry. Emu is our large flightless bird about the size of an ostrich, so a bit like turkey. I%26#39;m surprised there is no crocodile.
The coat of arms of Australia is supported by the Kangaroo and Emu. Can%26#39;t be many nations that eat their national symbols.
I guess there are English and Irish pubs, so why not an Aussie restaurant.

There are a lot of Australians around the area -especially ones working in yachting so maybe the restaurant is a natural offshoot
I didn%26#39;t realise shark was a cheap fish to buy.
I%26#39;ve eaten kangarroo before , oddly enough that was also in Nice at a different exotic meats restaurant. That was quite a french place though so it was kangaroo and foie gras.
The emu filet I had last night at Kookaburra%26#39;s tasted almost exactly like ostrich to me - it was served rosy .
The other two people with me had a kind of pie that turned out to be an Australian [almost] staple food and a mixed platter of shark and squid
There probably was crocodile on the menu but i couldn%26#39;t remember the exact details
