Hi
We are camping in MSM in July for five days. We will have a car and would like to know of any nice places to visit within an hour or so of MSM.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Enigma.

Head over to Brittany and visit Dol de Bretagne, Fougères, Dinard and St-Malo,and Dinan.

About 2 miles from MSM towards Pontorson there%26#39;s a windmill one can visit. You%26#39;ll see it on the hill to your left.
Or take the road around the bay to the left soon after leaving the causeway. You%26#39;ll have great views on the mount. You%26#39;ll pass near Huisne where there%26#39;s a german ossuary. It%26#39;s rather a macabre visit but there%26#39;s a panoramic point of view to wards the mount.
Further along is Bas Courtils where there%26#39;s the house of the marshes. An exhibition about the marshes. You can join a groupe to cross the bay on foot with a guide. Don%26#39;t try it on your own it can be dangerous.
That road leads to Pontaubault where%26#39;s Patton captured an important bridge intact. Then Avranches where the MSM manuscripts are on show.
A bit further is Villdieu les Poeles where you can visit a bell foundry.
From Pontorson S.E. you come to St James American cemetery
|||
Or you can follow the coast road round from Avranches up to Granville, birthplace of Christian Dior - you can visit his house where there is a collection of his dresses and perfume bottles. Also the old town of Granville is a nice place to walk around.
Cancale, on the coast west of MSM is a lovely little town with literally 100s of seafood restaurants and massive oyster beds, as well as an oyster museum.
|||
If you%26#39;ve got kids there%26#39;s also the zoo at Champrepus (near Villedieu des Poeles) and just at the end of the causeway to MSM is Alligator Bay.

Thanks loads for all that.Is all very helpful. Will keep us busy on our stay!

You already have a great bunch of options. I%26#39;d like to add St Malo. Yes I know it%26#39;s %26#39;reconstructed%26#39; but a great job has been done. Walking around the top of the walls is very enjoyable, and the forts that you see from there are still %26#39;the real thing%26#39;!! This is another thing that I suspect kids in particular would like.
|||
Yes St Malo is great, with a lovely beach and rock pools for the kids.
|||
St Malo definitely - and it has been very *carefully* reconstructed.
