1st time visitor to Riviera - need advice for 5 day trip

Hi,

I%26#39;d be landing on Nice airport on 29th April along with my wife, and would be there for 5 days. I%26#39;ve not deicded which place to stay, nut Nice looks OK (any suggestions?). We are interested in beaches (not too crowdy preferably) and mountains and possibly visiting some vineyards. Also, we%26#39;d like to visit some places around like Monaco and St Tropez. Are they day trip from Nice? Do we need to rent a car, or is public transport good? What places in Nice and around do you suggest us to visit.

Many thanks,

-Anshuman

St Tropez is a fair distance from Nice - its not an ideal day trip.

Public transport is good for everywhere else from Nice .

Monaco is an easy day trip from Nice by bus or train

Beaches in late April will be pretty quiet

Bellet is the closest wine region on the outskirts of Nice

You can go into the mountains by bus or train [sncf or chemin de fer de provence trains]

Hi selkieNice,

Many thanks for your suggestions - they sound very helpful.

Just one more query - you said beach would be quiet during April end - I hope weather wise it would still be a nice place for beach holiday - is that correct.

Many thanks,

Its generally nice and fairly warm on the beach but there can be April showers.

April is just the very beginning of the season and relatively quiet - not completely empty beaches though as the local school kids are on holiday when you are here - but quiet in comparison the full season

I wanted to spend some good time at beaches in Nice, but after going through some books and posts it now seems that Nice has only some pebble beach! :-(

Can you suggest which place to go for beach (Antibus?), and how easy is it to go there from Nice using public transport?

Is it a good idea to stay in Antibus instead of Nice to explore Riviera if we are more interested in beaches?

Thanks for all your help

I think that you mean Antibes, which does have a nice sandy beach. Next door to it and also accessible by train is Juan-les-Pins. Cannes of course has a nice sandy beach, Plage du Midi, which is public and spreads for couple of kilometres west of the harbour. If you are staying on the coast you are as well to travel by train, as there are frequennt services St Raphael - Cannes - Antibes - Nice - Monaco - Menton - Ventimiglia and vice versa.
