I%26#39;m thinking of going to Paris in August with my friend for a one night trip (Early flights going, late flight coming back next day) but I have been told its very expensive?
Can anyone help advise me on the best places to stay and eat thats relatively cheap and where the best places are to go for cheap night out drinking?

%26gt; Is Paris really expensive?!! %26lt;
No.

As with London, New York, and other large international cities, you could spend your life savings in a heartbeat if so inclined, or stay very inexpensively.
There are many inexpensive options for visiting Paris - too many to try to list here. Try doing a search using the word %26quot;budget%26quot; or %26quot;inexpensive%26quot; (in the box above) and you will get many, many threads on this subject for places to stay and also for inexpensive meals. (You can eat very well from crepe stands, assuming you don%26#39;t have a problem with cheese, for example, or from the charcuteries/delis, or many other sources.)
For places to stay, try the hotel search on this forum, and indicate your budget level, then check the reviews to see what suits you. (One person%26#39;s %26quot;inexpensive%26quot; is another person%26#39;s budget-buster so it%26#39;s not easy to say %26quot;this is inexpensive%26quot; and have it be meaningful to someone else.)
Good luck and have fun.

I agree wholeheartedly with BerkelyT. Paris is only as expensive as you make it. It definitely can be done in a reasonably inexpensive fashion and still have loads of fun, interesting things to do. Go!

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Is Paris really expensive?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
YES...if you%26#39;re preference is for 4-star Deluxe %26#39;palaces%26#39; and 3-star dining.
NO...if you%26#39;ve modest-to-moderate demands. There are great many good little 2-star hotel that are centrally situated and modestly/moderately prices and any number of good little neighborhood reataurants and cafés where you may eat reasonably well on a modest budget.
So on balance, Paris will probably be significantly %26#39;less expensive%26#39; (relatively) than London or New York.

When I read this question it just screamed out KDKSAIL%26#39;s name.
There is no avoiding doing your own research. Check hotel prices, use the %26quot;search%26quot; function at the top of this forum and type in something like %26quot;budget hotel%26quot; or %26quot;inexpensive food%26quot; and you will have a lot of information to comb through.
You could go almost anywhere and spend an amount between megabucks and punybucks. You just need to do the legwork to find what suits your needs.
You are just going for one night. By you asking this question, I wonder whether this is the time for you to be traveling. I%26#39;m just wondering. That%26#39;s all.

NO
Paris is not expensive for food if you stay away from the tourist traps that are the main city center areas.Find yourself some little cafe or bistro in some out of the way side street away from the main stghts and you can save yourself at least 20-40% of tourist prices.
Enjoy Paris

Last time we were in Paris, with the exchange rate at about 1.30€ to £1, we thought prices were reasonable. For meals, we%26#39;d look for a main course for about 15-20€, (about £10-£15), which is about comparable with a gastropub around where I live in the UK.
However, given the changes in exchange rates, the same food now costs £15-£20, which is expensive (at least, I think so!), so you are faced with trading down.
As jdbri says, there are places which are less expensive - from a previous post of his, you could check http://www.buffalo-grill.com/ which is an inexpensive French chain of restaurants, and also either buy drinks from a supermarket or look for bars outside the main tourist areas.

Paris can be VERY expensive or rather reasonable...depends how you do it. One can find reasonable accommodations if one really looks and also one need not eat out all the time (buying groceries (if accommodations %26quot;accommodate%26quot;) or just a baguette, cheese, etc. for a picnic can really extend one%26#39;s budget a lot). Truly depends on how you do it...some things you might be willing/wanting to splurge for but over all you will have just as much fun within a very reasonable budget!

This whole conversation seems over the top for a 1.5 day trip to Paris. Is this for real?

My son went a couple of years ago to see the finish of the Tour de France. He was there two nights and only remembers that he had a good time. You are right, it takes weeks to do Paris justice, but you have to work with what you have. I would suggest fll125 go back and read to earier message to the lady with the teen daughtrer and do as much as possible. And p;an to return as soon as possible!
