Any thoughts on the best way to travel from paris to Rome? First time in Europe and not sure if we should do day train trip for sights? Or fly over then do individual day trips to Florence, Pisa, Tuscany, etc? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

Triplover,
I looked at two options Train $ Air. I decided to fly. Got a great price on Easyjet less than the train and the travel time is about 2 hours rather than all night on the Train.

I%26#39;m doing the plane. No way will I do the train, espeically for so many hours.

Flying will be faster and cheaper. I mean, you have to shop around but there%26#39;s enough connection that you should be able to find a cheap seat.
It a pretty long distance to cover by train...not sure how long you%26#39;re off to in Europe but a day in a train is too long for me. On the other hand, I%26#39;ve heard a lot people wanting to experience a night train which ca be worthwhile. If that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re looking for, booking early is better to get a place and the best rate. Night train goes to Florence and Rome.
To visit Tuscany smaller towns, I beleive you%26#39;re better off staying a couple of days in Florence and make day trip from there. Florence to Rome can be done easily with the fast train(less then 2 hours I think?)

About 15 months ago I went to europe for the first time (5 week holiday). No doubt about it, CATCH THE TRAIN! I used the trains to get all over europe, they are the best. So much more to see when on the ground, better than a quick flight. Plan stopovers between Paris and Rome, and if you can afford it upgrade to 1st class seats. From memory they were only a little more than economy seat. Print out maps from googlemaps for each destination. You will find the train stations to be the centre of town/city, while airports are way out of town.
Trains leave on time - no delays like at airports.

we are leaving later this week and will be taking the overnight Artesia train. It was not much more than a flight, paid 55 euro for 2nd class couchettes and we don%26#39;t have to get out of city to airport, into city from airport. Plus it saves one night $$ on hotel.

For approx. $ 40 - $ 50 take the flight from Paris Orly to Pisa or Rome. It goes to both. Florence%26#39;s airport is Pisa BTW. It takes 1.5 hours.

Trav%26amp;Jess makes a good point. While the flight itself might be quicker and cheaper, add several hrs for getting to the airport, check-in, security lines, potential flight delays, waiting for baggage, not to mention 45 euros for each trip to/from airport.
The train can be convenient and fun... but it also depends on what kind of traveller you are. If you%26#39;re just a couple on the go without much more than a carry-on each, the train works great. If you%26#39;re a family with several large suitcases and all sorts of other gear, flying might be your only option.

I am trying to find a day train that departs from Paris on a Friday morning and arrives in Rome that night, and I cannot find ANY trains that are not overnight trains on the Eurail site or otherwise! I am not interested in flying; even when I have searched for other destinations as a midway between Paris and Rome, I still only get that same evening train departure time. Please advise!!
